Universities in UK that Accept WASSCE Results 2024

Introduction

Universities in the UK that accept WASSCE results in 2024 offer a beacon of hope for many African secondary school students and graduates, particularly those from Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia. These students often wonder if their WAEC scores are sufficient for admission into UK institutions.

The encouraging news is that several universities across the globe, including those in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and beyond, recognize the West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as part of the essential documentation for international students seeking admission into undergraduate or foundation year programs.

In this post, I have curated a list of UK colleges and universities that acknowledge WAEC results, providing direct links to these institutions and outlining additional admission requirements to aid you in making an informed decision..

List of UK colleges and universities that accept WASSCE results:

1. University of Birmingham

Known for its diverse course offerings and vibrant student life. The university values the WASSCE for undergraduate admissions, especially for courses in arts, humanities, and some sciences.

2. University of Manchester

Whether pursuing a BA or BSC, Manchester University offers some of the most cutting-edge technologies available in the world to facilitate studying for its students. It is one of the most prestigious universities in the world, known for its excellent research and teaching. You can select from a variety of undergraduate courses here that will benefit your professional journey.

But in order to study in Manchester, those with WASSCE results must first complete their foundation programme. Your results are not entered directly. Nevertheless, you need to obtain at least a B2 in five topics that are pertinent to your selected course in order to be admitted to the foundation year.

You must have credentials such as three GCE A Levels, an International Baccalaureate, an ND (Upper Credit), and an HND (Upper Credit) if you choose to forego their foundation programme. Manchester is renowned for its research output and global student community.

8. The University Of Sheffield

According to the 2019 QS World University Ranking, the University of Sheffield is ranked 75th in the world and among the top 13 public research universities in the United Kingdom. Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England is the location. There are five academic faculties at Sheffield University, each with several departments. In 2017, it had roughly 20,000 undergraduate students.

You’re in luck if you’re trying to get into this university because WAEC results are accepted. If you want to avoid taking an English proficiency test like the IELTS, you must receive a C6 or higher in the language. Have the IELTS, though, as some departments would need you to submit it when you apply.

Additionally, as undergraduate degrees are typically in high demand, you must apply as soon as possible to secure a spot at the university.

9. The University Of Bradford

The university administration reports that 94% of its 2017 alumni found work within six months after graduating. Additionally, they have spent millions of pounds to guarantee that their pupils receive instruction from top-notch facilities and are given access to academic and professional experts.

According to data from 2019, 15% of Bradford University’s student body is international. Fortunately, you can apply for admission to their foundation year and undergraduate degree programmes using your WAEC result.

Candidates wishing to be considered for admission into its foundation programme must have at least a C6 in five disciplines (not including vocational and native language courses).

The university informs applicants that while completing standards for grades does not ensure admission, it does increase your chances of being considered.

10. Southampton University

The prerequisites for Southampton University’s undergraduate and foundational degree programmes varies.

If you’re embarking on foundation courses with the goal of advancing to undergraduate degrees in social science, humanities, management, or the arts, it is imperative to secure a minimum of C6 in at least five disciplines. Conversely, for those aiming to delve into finance, economics, or management, attaining at least a B3 in mathematics becomes a prerequisite.

Moreover, aspiring students of engineering or science foundation programmes must demonstrate academic proficiency by achieving at least a B3 in five relevant courses. Additionally, for Nigerian students, securing 300 in JAMB or a C4 in five pertinent subjects is essential. However, it’s important to note that completing a science foundation year does not pave the way for a medical career.

Furthermore, to transition into the undergraduate programme, students must successfully complete a certified foundation year, excel in the UK A levels, and accumulate 28–38 points in the International Baccalaureate. In the absence of an IELTS score, a C6 in English WAEC is also a requisite. For a more comprehensive understanding of the application requirements, please click this link.

11. The University Of Edinburgh

To secure admission and start an undergraduate degree at the institution, candidates holding WAEC results must first undergo a foundation program. However, direct entry could be an option if you have other qualifications, such as SAT or AP scores, GCE A Levels, or the International Baccalaureate.

Moreover, your WAEC grades may be used to apply to their College of Science and Technology. Yet, it is crucial to score at least a B in their international admission exam. In addition, proving English language proficiency is mandatory, requiring certificates from IELTS, TOEFL, or similar English qualifications, as the institution does not accept WAEC English results for meeting their English language requirements.
